Four Arrested in Townsville Drug, Weapons Bust

Four people have been arrested on 34 charges following the closure of Operation Xray Redshift on January 13, targeting the supply and distribution of methylamphetamine, cocaine and cannabis in Townsville.

During the operation, Detectives from the Major Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) Northern executed search warrants on an Alligator Creek property and an associated vehicle, locating and seizing 1kg of cocaine, 108kg of cannabis, almost 8kg of methylamphetamine, over $400,000 cash, three Category B rifles, one Category D semi-automatic rifle, one Category H handgun, magazines and ammunition.

A 24-year-old Townsville man was charged with five counts of supplying dangerous drugs, two counts each of possessing property from trafficking or supplying, unlawful supply of weapons, possessing anything used in commission of a crime and possessing property suspected of being used in a drug offence, and one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing counterfeit money, contravening an order to access information stored electronically, unlawful possession of weapons Category B, unlawful possession of weapons Category M, unlawful possession of weapons Category D, unlawful possession of weapons Category H, authority required to possess explosives (ammunition), possessing dangerous drugs S1 quantity exceeding S4 and possessing dangerous drugs S2 quantity exceeding S3.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on March 6.

A 28-year-old Cairns man was charged with four counts of supply dangerous drugs, two counts of possess dangerous drugs exceed S4 and one count of trafficking dangerous drugs.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on April 24.

A 24-year-old Townsville woman was charged with four counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count each of trafficking drugs, possessing dangerous drugs S1 exceeding S4 quantity and possessing dangerous drugs S2 exceeding S3 quantity.

She is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on January 28.

A 59-year-old Townsville woman was charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs S1 exceeding S4 quantity, possessing dangerous drugs S2 exceeding S3 quantity and possessing property suspected of being proceeds of a drug offence.

She is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on January 29.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Bye of MOCS Northern said getting serious offenders of this nature off the streets has significant benefits for the Townsville community.

"Dangerous drugs such as those seized under Operation Redshift cause detrimental harm to the community," Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Bye said.

"We'll continue to investigate and apprehend all offenders who bring these substances into the area to keep making Townsville safer."
