Four inmates charged after correctional facility riot - Parklea

Four men will appear in court today charged as part of an ongoing investigation into a riot at a correctional facility in Sydney's north west earlier this week.

Just before 2pm on Monday (13 July 2021), a number of inmates allegedly climbed onto the roof and caused extensive damage to the inside and outside of a correctional facility in Parklea.

The incident was resolved by correctional officers.

The matter was referred to Riverstone Police Area Command, who established Strike Force Rhondell to investigate the incident, assisted by detectives from throughout the North West Metropolitan Region.

Following inquiries, four male inmates – aged 20, 23 and two aged 22 – were transferred to Riverstone Police Station yesterday (Friday 16 July 2021) and each charged with riot.

They are due to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 17 July 2021).

Investigations continue.
