Four people injured after boat explodes - Murray River, near Moama

Four people have been injured after a boat exploded and was engulfed in flames on the Murray River near Moama on the New South Wales and Victorian border this afternoon.

About 2.45pm (Saturday 14 December 2019), the family were travelling on a speed boat in a westerly direction after leaving the Echuca East boat ramp.

When they neared Goldborough Road they encountered mechanical issues and police have been told when the engine restarted it exploded.

Emergency services attended, and the family were rescued and taken to Echuca Hospital

A 43-year-old female was airlifted to Alfred Hospital Melbourne and her three-year-old boy son was airlifted to Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne both suffering burns to the legs. They remain in a serious but stable condition.

A 50-year-old man and a 19-year-old man received minor burns and remain in Echuca Hospital.

A 12-year-old boy escaped injury.

The boat was totally destroyed and the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
