Four teens charged following incident at detention centre in Grafton

Four teenagers have been charged following an incident at a juvenile detention centre at Grafton yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 8.15pm yesterday, police from Grafton Local Area Command were called to a juvenile detention centre at South Grafton.

On arrival, they located four teenage detainees allegedly armed with knives attempting to access an air conditioning vent about three metres above the ground.

The teens were arrested without incident and the weapons were secured.

Two teens aged 16 and 17 were charged with affray, possess offensive instrument in place of detention and malicious damage.

Two teens aged 15 and 16 were charged with affray, possess offensive instrument in place of detention, assault / intimidate law officer (detention centre) and malicious damage.

All four teens are due to appear via video link at a children’s court today.

No staff members at the facility were physically injured during the incident.
