France bans work emails outside office hours

– If you’ve ever felt like you can’t escape the shackles of work because of your email, it turns out France is now the country for you, Digital Spy said.

Authorities are so worried about the suggested levels of stress linked to being constantly on-call that the ‘right to disconnect’ amendment – or, ‘le droit de la déconnexion’, if you’re feeling French – now makes it illegal for companies with 50 or more employees to sending emails outside regular work hours, Digital Spy said.

The guidelines mean companies will be forced to set up a charter of specific times in evenings and weekends when employees would be banned from sending/receiving mail.

Though the bill looks set to put a evening emails, we imagine the amount of WhatsApp work groups being set up will sharply increase. Even worse, the pesky sent and read receipts will make it even harder to avoid your working life, Digital Spy said.
