Fraud and torture charges at Carina

Detectives have charged a woman with fraud and torture after she allegedly obtained money from a fundraising page, businesses, and community organisations under fraudulent circumstances.

It will be alleged the woman established a crowdfunding website claiming a 5-year-old girl, who is known to the woman, was being treated for cancer.

After consultation with medical professionals police will allege this claim was false and that the woman received a number of donations under false pretences.

Police will further allege the woman's treatment of the 5-year-old girl in order to facilitate the frauds constituted acts of torture.

A 36-year-old Carina woman has been charged with three counts of fraud (dishonestly gaining benefit) and one count of torture.

The woman appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court earlier today.
