Free celebrations to "Light Up" New Year's Eve

The City of Adelaide is excited to launch its New Year's Eve events schedule which will include a free family friendly festival, a new hybrid sky show and street parties.

The City of Adelaide will once again partner with Gluttony to present "Light Up" in Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka. "Light Up" will be free to the public, with ticket allocation increasing from 5000 people to 8000. Tickets for "Light Up" will be available through Moshtix from 14 December.

For the first time, "Light Up" will feature a hybrid pyrotechnic, drone and light show for families at 9:30pm, while there will also be a traditional fireworks show to ring in the new year at midnight.

"Light Up" presented by Gluttony at Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka will be expanded, to feature an extra entertainment zone and an increased performance program, as well as more food offerings and a larger licensed area.

City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Jane Lomax-Smith says this year is an opportunity for people to come together in the city and have some fun without any Covid restrictions.

"Our celebrations are back bigger and better, so we're inviting everyone to party in the city this New Year's Eve," said the Lord Mayor.

"This year the "Light Up" event will be free to the public with the ticket allocation jumping from 5000 to 8000 people, which will create a fun, family friendly atmosphere in Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka.

"With larger crowds and more entertainment, we're excited to be able to build upon last year's celebrations, which based on market research were deemed an overwhelming success.

"We think families and kids will really enjoy the new hybrid pyrotechnic, drone and light show, so we encourage everyone to plan ahead and secure your free tickets to "Light Up" through Moshtix."

Gluttony co-director Daniel Michael is happy to once again partner with the City Adelaide to host these important celebrations.

"After presenting "Light Up" on New Year's Eve last year, the Gluttony team is delighted to have the opportunity to create this wonderful event again this festive season," said Mr Michael.

"Rymill Park / Murlawirrapurka is such a wonderful space to activate for events like Light Up, with green grass, undulating hillsides and its tree canopy creating an enchanting atmosphere in which to experience live entertainment and celebrate community.

"We're looking forward to presenting "Light Up" again as a fun and festive event for Adelaideans of all ages in the East End, to celebrate the year that was 2022.

"Bringing together some of the artists, food vendors and bespoke bars you know and love from Fringe in the East End, with the extra spectacle of lighting, drone and pyrotechnic shows at special moments during the night, Light Up will play a part in creating an unforgettable New Year's Eve in Adelaide."

For the first time, revellers at "Light Up" and in the East End will be able to experience a hybrid drone, lighting and pyrotechnic show at the family celebrations at 9:30pm.

This unique performance is being curated by The Drone Entertainment Group (DEG), with Managing Director Mark Pettitt saying, "We are delighted that the City of Adelaide has chosen DEG to demonstrate this new medium in the sky and together with our partners, drone sky shows, we look forward to giving the people of Adelaide a taste of the true wonders and delights a drone light show can deliver".

There will also be three "Midnight Moments" locations across the city and North Adelaide for those who want a party atmosphere. Each will provide memorable dining and hospitality experiences, with roads closed to traffic to allow for live music and unique street parties. Booking ahead is recommended through the individual host venues:

• Multiple venues on Rundle Street including a 1920's themed party at NOLA

• The Lion Hotel on Jerningham Street with drinks and dinner packages, plus live bands and DJ

• Eleven on Waymouth Street with restaurant packages, an open-air bar and live entertainment
