Farmers and agricultural businesses can now recycle eligible single-use polypropylene bags at the Winchelsea Transfer Station, with the industry led bagMUSTER program officially launching at the site.

The program accepts eligible bags from fertilisers, seed, stock feed and pet food, providing a free and responsible recycling option for agricultural plastic that would otherwise go to landfill.

BagMUSTER is a national, industry led not for profit program dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of eligible bags used in Australian agriculture.

Surf Coast Shire Councillor Tony Phelps said the introduction of bagMUSTER at Winchelsea Transfer Station was a positive step for our farming community and the environment.

"Single-use polypropylene bags are a necessary part of farming, but they don't need to end up in landfill," said Cr Phelps.

"By bringing bagMUSTER to Winchelsea, we are making it easier for farmers and agricultural businesses to recycle responsibly and keep plastic out of the environment."

Cr Phelps said the program aligns with Council's commitment to sustainable waste management and diverting waste from landfill.

"And this program is free for eligible bags, is practical and delivers real environment benefits," said Cr Phelps.

The bagMUSTER drop off service is only available at the Winchelsea Transfer Station. All bags must be empty, clean and dry to be accepted for recycling. Fees will apply for the disposal to landfill of bags that are not eligible through the bagMUSTER program.

All bags collected by bagMUSTER are recycled within Australia and repurposed into new products.
