The free skip bin service provided by Hawkesbury City Council to help flood affected residents will end at midnight on Sunday, 25 July 2021.
Council has provided the free waste disposal service for affected residents in the aftermath of the March 2021 flood. During this time, Council arranged for more than 1,600 skip bins to be delivered and collected. The bins were funded by the NSW Government through NSW Public Works.
This funding agreement ended on 30 June, meaning Council is no longer able to take orders for skip bins under this program after midnight on Sunday, 25 July, 2021.
Hawkesbury City Mayor Patrick Conolly said the free skip bin service was very successful in helping residents clean up their properties following the floods.
"Council is committed to supporting residents through the clean-up process. So far, 4,698 tonnes of flood waste have been collected," Mayor Conolly said.
"We understand that people may still have flood waste requiring disposal. Our residents still have up until 25 July to use this service but after this date they will need to make other arrangements to dispose of this waste, which Council has made available.
"Kerbside collections are also available for eligible residents to assist with the disposal of waste by calling 1300 889 527.
"While the skip bin service and free tipping of flood waste at our landfill is coming to an end, the Waste Levy Exemption for flood waste still applies for those residents that choose to dispose of their flood waste at the Hawkesbury City Waste Management Facility at 1 The Driftway, Londonderry. This exemption is available until Thursday, 30 September 2021. Residents can further minimise their waste disposal costs by separating their load into recyclables and landfill."
