French bike rider bolts across Bolte

A bike rider on the Bolte Bridge raised the ire of peak-hour drivers as he pedalled over the bridge on his way to the airport early this morning around 9am..

The 52-year-old French national had just debarked from the Tasmanian ferry at Port Melbourne and told police he was making his way to the airport to catch a plane to further his travels.

The rider had unwittingly held up traffic as attending police closed down the lane he was riding in and lowered the bridge speed to 40km/h.

The rider was issued with an $161 infringement notice for failing to obey a no entry sign.
