Wollongong City Council is proud to announce the winners of its first Creative Wollongong Short Film competition.
The film competition was developed to provide a fun creative opportunity for children and young people of the region between the ages of 8 and 19 years to develop their acting, film making and story telling skills.
There was an impressive number of entries, with a total of 24 short films submitted over the course of the competition. The judging panel which included prominent Australian TV and film actor Jake Ryan were extremely impressed with the depth, humour and overall skill level showcased throughout the short films.
There were two categories, for filmmakers aged from 8 to 12 years and for filmmakers aged 13 to 19 years, along with the additional award of best performance in a leading or supporting role, with each of the winners receiving a prize of $150.
The winning films will be released on Creative Wollongong's Facebook page over the coming week and will also be screened in 2021 as a part of a Council youth film festival.
"We're thrilled with the response we've had from our young creative community. The aptitude displayed across these short films was inspiring to see, and confirms a deep pool of creative talent is emerging from our Wollongong region." Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.
"The filmmakers should be incredibly proud of their efforts, and to support their continued development the competition's judges will be providing valuable feedback to each of the entrants."
"We have every hope of running this competition again next year and we would love to see the same individuals entering again with improved skills and new ideas that they have fostered over the course of this competition."

Winner: Ava Dupont for Rock My World
Runner Up: Felix Williams for Dance Battle
Filmmakers aged 13-19:
Winner: Beau Ritchie for The Diet
Runner Up: Mala Elith for the Orchestra of Isolation
Best performance in a leading or supporting role:
Winner: Nerida Field for her performance in Fever Dream
