A new and improved play space will soon grace Hat Head reserve with construction expected to get underway this April.
Kempsey Shire Council's Hat Head play space project is scheduled to begin in late April and will bring the community a new and inclusive playground suitable for all ages and abilities, as well an array of recreational facilities such as a barbecue area, shelters and picnic areas.
Kempsey Shire Council Coordinator Civic Services, Katy Rogan, said the need to upgrade facilities in the village was identified during a catch-up with the community and it's great to be able to see a start date in sight.
"The improvements coming for Hat Head reserve and playground area will create a safe and accessible environment for people from all walks of life, making this much-loved community space a great family outing", said Ms Rogan.
"We're going to see new equipment and facilities introduced to the area including a half basketball court, an accessible nest swing and carousel, which will be welcomed replacement compared to the previous ageing equipment."
"Recreational facilities are also receiving a boost with new shade shelters, an accessible barbecue and table settings, and a drinking and bottle refilling station. There are also several park benches being installed around the reserve."
Council is matching funding received from the NSW Government's Everyone Can Play grant program with both providing $107,544 towards the $215,088 project.
"Providing residents and visitors with inclusive play spaces is a great way to encourage people of all abilities to enjoy the outdoors, to be active and learn through play", said Mrs Rogan.
