Funding boost for community events

Ten local community groups and organisations will share in over $57,000 in funding to assist with the delivery of events, activities and programs that enhance the lives and celebrate important occasions in communities and provide opportunities to develop social cohesion and connection in the Cairns region.

Council today endorsed Community Partnerships Grant funding for the following organisations:

  • Babinda District Community Association Inc for the 2021 NAIDOC Celebration ($2000).
  • Cairns Children's Museum Inc for Pi Day: A Celebration of Circles ($6,868).
  • Cairns Indian Association Inc for UTSAV – Mega Indian Cultural and Food Festival ($5,000)
  • Cairns Tenpin Bowling Association Inc for the Inter-City Shield North Queensland ($4,000).
  • The Dr Edward Koch Foundation Limited for the All of Us Festival – Celebrating Mental Health Week ($6,000).
  • Drum Infinity: Mugendai Inc for the Mugendai 5th Year Anniversary Concert & Let's Try Taiko Workshop ($3,500).
  • Lions Club of Cairns Marlin Coast for the Festival of the Beaches ($12,000).
  • Lions Club of Cairns for the Southside Festival ($12,000).
  • Playgroup Queensland Ltd for Messy Play May 2022 ($4,500).
  • Redlynch Valley Community Group Inc. for Halloween Tunnel of Terror ($1,400).

The above resolution needs to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 25 August 2021.
