Mitchell Shire Council has secured $76,682 from the Allan Labor Government's Living Libraries Infrastructure Program to deliver a Library Technology Upgrade. This investment will modernise services across Mitchell Libraries, funding the upgrade of Self Loan stations, circulation assistants, and ceiling sensors. The improvements will deliver faster, more reliable and more accessible services, while freeing up staff to focus on learning programs, personal support and community engagement.
Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of libraries as inclusive spaces for all residents.
"Libraries are one of the most important community spaces we have - they provide opportunities for learning, creativity and connection for people of all ages. This funding will help us deliver more reliable and accessible services, ensuring our libraries continue to meet the needs of our growing community," Mayor Dougall said.
The announcement forms part of a $4 million statewide investment through the 2025-26 round of the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, supporting 18 libraries across Victoria. Minister for Local Government Nick Staikos announced the recipients, underscoring the program's role in delivering high‑quality infrastructure projects that respond to the changing needs of communities.
This latest round of funding ensures that our libraries in Mitchell Shire - can continue to adapt, innovate and serve as vital centres of learning, creativity and social connection well into the future.
