Shellharbour City Council has secured $1 million from the NSW Government for the redevelopment of Jock Brown Sports Field in Barrack Heights, helping deliver improved sporting facilities for the city's growing community.
The funding was awarded through the NSW Government's Faster Assessment Incentive Program, which recognises councils that have met or exceeded development assessment performance benchmarks.

The investment will support delivery of the Jock Brown Sports Field Master Plan, which was adopted by Council in 2025 following community consultation. The master plan provides a long-term vision to transform the site into a modern sporting and community precinct.
Located in the heart of Barrack Heights, Jock Brown Sports Field has long served as an important hub for local sport and recreation, supporting community participation and active lifestyles. The adopted Master Plan will help ensure the precinct continues to meet the needs of current and future users while supporting increased participation in organised sport.
Planned improvements include new amenities, lighting and supporting infrastructure to create two high-quality community sports fields that better meet the needs of local sporting clubs, players and spectators.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer welcomed the funding and said it would help Council continue delivering essential community infrastructure.
"This is a great outcome for our community and a significant boost for the Jock Brown Sports Field redevelopment," Mayor Homer said.
"This funding recognises Council's strong performance in development assessment timeframes, and I would like to acknowledge the dedicated work of our Planning and Assessment team in achieving this result.
"As Shellharbour grows, it's important we continue investing in quality sporting facilities that support local clubs, families and active lifestyles. This funding will help bring the community's vision for Jock Brown Sports Field to life and create a space that can be enjoyed by everyone."
