Further arrest after Middle Park shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives have arrested a third person today following an alleged non-fatal shooting in Middle Park last month.

This afternoon, officers conducted a Firearm Prohibition Search at a property in Ascot Vale, where they located and seized a firearm, as well as locating a 26-year-old man.

The 26-year-old Truganina man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

He is expected to be charged with intentionally cause serious injury, prohibited person possess firearm, possess drug of dependence and other related offences.

Today's arrest follows an incident in Middle Park on 17 August where a 76-year-old man was shot at his home address on Canterbury Road.

Emergency services were called to the property after reports the man was injured when he answered a knock to his front door about 7.50pm.

He sustained a gunshot wound to his lower body and was conveyed to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Two women inside the property at the time, a 72-year-old and a 39-year-old, were not physically injured during the incident.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
