Additional charges have been laid as part of an investigation into the alleged organised theft of cash and jewellery, NSW Police say.
Last month, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Property Crime Squad established Strike Force Brilliant to investigate a number of targeted thefts and break and enter offences throughout Sydney.
A pattern of conduct is for thieves to distract victims while other syndicate members steal the victim's property.
Strike force investigators, assisted by officers from the North West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad and Operation Countdown, are investigating more than 18 different incidents mainly targeting jewellery dealers and members of the public making withdrawals at financial institutions.
Following further inquiries, strike force investigators laid an additional 51 charges against six members of the group today.
A 23-year-old man was charged with attempted steal from person, and eight counts of knowingly deal in proceeds of crime.
A 30-year-old man was charged with attempted steal from person, and seven counts of knowingly deal in proceeds of crime.
A 34-year-old man was charged with steal from person, larceny >$15,000, and eight counts of knowingly deal in proceeds of crime.
A 39-year-old man was charged with steal from person, larceny, greater than $15,000; larceny, between $5000 and $15000; and eight counts of knowingly deal in proceeds of crime.
A 43-year-old man was charged with attempted steal from person, and six counts of knowingly deal in proceeds of crime.
A 53-year-old man was charged with attempted steal from person, and four counts of knowingly deal in proceeds of crime.
They were all remanded in custody to appear at Central Local Court at a later date.
Investigations are continuing and further arrests are expected.
