Further charges laid over allegedly deliberately lit bushfires, NSW

Further charges have been laid after a man allegedly started a number of bushfires in the state's Hunter Region, NSW Police say.

Strike Force Billett was established by the Property Crime Squad’s Arson Unit to investigate more than 100 bushfires in the Cessnock area between August 2015 and April 2016.

On Thursday 28 April 2016, a 20-year-old man was arrested at a fire at Lochinvar, and following a search of the man's vehicle, investigators also located and seized accelerants and a number of mobile phones.

The man was charged with arson offences at the time.

Following further investigations, the man was charged with two counts of deliberately lighting scrub fires, damage property by fire, and make false call to emergency service number.

He has been refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Monday 23 May 2016.
