The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (MoECRT) through the Chair of G20 Education Working Group (EdWG), Iwan Syahril expressed his appreciation for the contribution of all G20 member countries, special invitees, especially Troika Co-Chairs, Italy and India, international organizations, especially UNESCO, and all parties involved in the entire series of the G20 EdWG and the G20 Education Ministers' Meeting (EdMM).
"The fourth meeting, as the last meeting of the EdWG, succeeded in finalizing the reports and the compendium document as the working group's deliverables that presented mapping of challenges and various strategies, as well as best practices from 26 participating countries, with more than 150 details of best practices," said Iwan in his press statement on Friday (02/09) in Nusa Dua, Bali.
Iwan, currently Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel, and the Acting Director General of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Secondary Education of the MoECRT also took the opportunity to explain the Education Ministers' Meeting. "As the chairman, Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim summarized various ideas and thoughts brought up during a series of EdWG meetings. There are 22 points approved by member countries to be followed up for the global education sector recovery," he explained.
"Minister Nadiem addressed the delegation that it is only by moving forward to restore and transform education, we can all overcome the current difficulties and future challenges," said Iwan.
In regards to Indonesia's position, Iwan also said, "The spirit of gotong royong, or the effort to help each other to achieve common goals will be included in the EdWG G20 report as a framework for education recovery to be brought to the UN's Transforming Education Summit."
"Gotong royong is acknowledged by delegates as an answer to the challenges of achieving recovery of the education sector. It is our wish that this spirit will be brought forward in the next G20 presidencies ," said Iwan.
G20 Education Sector Involving the Community and Driving the Cultural Economy
Besides the summit, the MoECRT also hosted a series of activities for delegates' spouses. "The MoECRT introduces the pivotal roles of Indonesian teachers in transforming education. We invite the delegate's spouse to visit State High School 3 Denpasar to observe the best practices of Emancipated Learning including the implementation of the Emancipated Curriculum and Mover Teacher program," explained Iwan.
The MoECRT, also responsible for the cultural sector, also promotes the recovery of the cultural economy by introducing a variety of craft and food products of the locals, including Gringsing weaving textile from the Tenganan Pegringsingan Traditional Village, Karangasem Regency, Bali.
"Gringsing weaving is aligned with the theme of the G20 Indonesia's presidency, "Recover Together, Recover Stronger". In Balinese, 'gring' means 'sick' and 'sing' means 'no', combined together as 'not sick'. We continue to introduce local wisdom to the delegates during the G20 education series of events," said Iwan.
To involve the local community at the G20 event, the MoECRT also invited Sanggar Pancer Langit, one of our partners in Emancipated Campus programs-Emancipated Learning sets of policies for higher education-to perform at the gala dinner held at the Pasifika Museum.
In his welcoming speech during the gala dinner, Iwan explains that Sanggar in Indonesian is a community-based art studio where young artists and apprentices learn and work collaboratively to produce artworks and improve their skills.
"We know that many sanggar are struggling during the pandemic. Therefore, we should always support our children to perform their creativity and passions for learning, including in arts," said Iwan.
The Sanggar Pancer Langit, which the members ranging from students of early childhood to higher education, performed a traditional Balinese dance that tells about the traditions of the locals at Kapal, Badung Regency in helping each other during a plague.
Cultural experiences were also offered to the delegates visiting the Samsara Living Museum in Karangasem Regency by embracing the philosophy of the daily life of the 200 members of the traditional village.
During their stay in Bali, the delegates also visited the Tirta Empul Temple in Gianyar, practiced meditation and breathing exercises for recovery at the Tampaksiring Presidential Palace. This series of cultural activities was ended by the performance of Kecak dance at Uluwatu Temple.
"We believe that through a series of cultural events and productive meetings held in Bali, the delegates will bring special memories and inspirations home," said Iwan.
