Game on for free Retro Games night in CBD

Townsville City Council is getting ready for the long weekend with a Retro Games Night and free movies in the city this Friday.

Families are invited to come on down to enjoy live entertainment, wildlife displays, retro games and traditional Australian films in the lead up to Australia Day.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the Retro Games and Movie Night is a great way to start the long weekend off right.

"Council wanted to give residents a family friendly option to begin the Australia Day weekend," Cr Hill said.

"There will be plenty of things for the whole family to do, including a screening of some of the most Australian movies ever created – Crocodile Dundee and The Castle."

Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said free events like this are a great way to bring families into the CBD.

"Council is always looking for ways to liven the city, and free family events are a fantastic way to do this," Cr Greaney said.

"There will be live entertainment including wildlife displays and music, classic 80's and 90's games, movies and food – it's shaping up to be a great weekend."

The event will begin at 4pm on Friday 25 January in Flinders Square.
