Garbage truck driver charged - Chester Hill

A 32-year-old man has been charged after a woman was hit by a garbage truck in Sydney's south-west earlier today.

About 8.30am (Tuesday 23 February 2021), emergency services were called to the intersection of Gurney Road and Woodlands Avenue, Chester Hill, following reports a pedestrian was hit by a garbage truck.

The female pedestrian died at the scene. She is yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit.

The driver was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was later arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with:

  • Dangerous driving occasioning death
  • Negligent driving occasioning death
  • Disobey no right-hand turn sign
  • Not give way to pedestrian

The Campbelltown man will appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday 11 March 2021.
