Geelong, Wyndham Councils Unite for Regional Future

The City of Greater Geelong and City of Wyndham are set to strengthen their regional partnership with a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU has been developed through extensive consultation between Mayors, CEOs and officers from both Councils over the past 12 months.

Its aim is to foster a relationship, develop joint advocacy projects, support planning and economic development initiatives and explore joint opportunities.

The MoU outlines a formal framework for cooperation and is proposed to be in place for a five-year term. The agreement will ensure regular communication, transparency and strategic alignment on joint initiatives that benefit the communities of both municipalities.

City of Greater Geelong and City of Wyndham will continue to explore innovative ways to support their respective communities, enhance service delivery and advocate effectively for shared regional priorities.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

The partnership with Wyndham is a natural step forward in supporting the long-term growth of the region.

This MoU recognises the potential we share as two of Victoria's fastest growing regions.

With a shared boundary and aligned growth trajectories, we have identified significant opportunities to work together across key areas including planning and growth, economic development, business engagement, arts and culture, sport and joint advocacy projects.

Wyndham City Mayor Mia Shaw

In just 20 years, Geelong and Wyndham would be home to almost one million residents.

The challenges associated with growth are well documented, and we need to start doing things differently.

Our partnership with Geelong through this MoU is about addressing shared challenges and leveraging collective strengths. Together, we will work on initiatives that lead to a more liveable region. Through shared vision and collaboration, we will tackle regional challenges and unlock opportunities that benefit all.
