Geo-targeting SMS alert helps locate man missing from Hornsby

A geo-targeting SMS alert issued by police has helped locate a man missing in Sydney's Upper North Shore.

The 83-year-old man was last seen at a home on Ida Street, Hornsby, about 10.30pm yesterday (Thursday 15 April 2021).

He was reported missing to officers from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command later the same day, who commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.

As a result of inquiries, including a geo-targeting SMS alert issued to local residents, a member of the community located the man on Bushlands Avenue about 8am today (Friday 16 April 2021).

He has been taken to hospital for assessment.
