Geo-targeting SMS alert helps locate missing man at Penrith

A geo-targeting SMS alert issued by police has helped locate a missing man in Penrith.

Raymond 'John' Wilkin, aged 83, was last seen at an aged care home on Village Crescent, Penrith, about 6.30pm yesterday (Friday 29 October 2021).

After failing to locate him later that evening, staff reported John missing, and officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command commenced inquiries to locate him.

Family and police held concerns for John's welfare as he lives with dementia and was without access to money or a mobile phone.

Following inquiries – including a geo-targeting SMS alert issued to people in the area – the man was located safe this morning (Saturday 30 October 2021) in Penrith and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being returned home.

Police would like to thank the media and community for their assistance.
