Geo-targeting SMS assists in locating missing Thornleigh man

A man reporting missing from Sydney's upper north shore has been located safe and well.

The 69-year-old man was last seen leaving a care facility on Hillmont Avenue, Thornleigh, about 8pm last night (Thursday 7 October 2021).

Officers from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command were contacted and commenced an investigation into his whereabouts.

Following inquiries, including a public appeal, a member of the public located the man on Woods Street in Thornleigh about 10.45am today (Friday 8 October 2021), after recognising him from the geo-targeting SMS alert.

They stayed with him until emergency services arrived, and he has since been transferred to hospital for observation.

Police would like to thank the community and media for their assistance.
