Geoscience Australia update in response to Covid

** This statement will be updated regularly as circumstances change **

The Australian Government is seeking to minimise the impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) on the health of Australians, the health system and the economy.

Geoscience Australia is following the advice of the ACT Government. From 5pm, 12 August, we will be implementing the following strategies to reduce the impact of COVID-19:

  • Temporary closure of all Geoscience Australia public areas: the Geoscience Australia foyer, Education Centre and the N.H. (Doc) Fisher Library facilities are temporarily closed, however you can still access our online services, including the Library Services and Classroom Resources.
  • Temporarily suspending field work: all field work activities have been temporarily suspended, and will be rescheduled to a later date.
  • Cancelling or postponing travel: Geoscience Australia staff will not be travelling internationally or domestically. All contractors and suppliers engaged by Geoscience Australia are requested to also cease travel.
  • Reducing face-to-face meetings: we have temporarily cancelled our public talks and seminars, and all external meetings are now being conducted virtually, where possible.

We will revise our response plan as required and will take additional steps if advised by the Australian Government.
