October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and with about 400 Tasmanian women diagnosed with breast cancer each year, it is an important reminder to get checked.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Tasmanian women, and early detection is vital. When it is diagnosed early through screening, treatment is more successful.
As Minister for Health and Minister for Women, I encourage as many Tasmanian women as possible to make an appointment this month and have a potentially life-saving mammogram.
Free breast screens are available to Tasmanian women over 40 every two years, and there are extra breast screening appointments available during October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to improving health outcomes for all Tasmanian women, and BreastScreen Tasmania is jointly funded by the Australian and State Governments under the National Health Partnership Agreement.
BreastScreen Tasmania offers screening in Hobart, Launceston and in more than 30 other locations around the state, including through two mobile screening units.
