Get Involved campaign to shape our schools

Today’s launch of the Department of Education’s Get Involved campaign at Penguin District School is a further chance for Tasmanians to shape their local schools and communities.

As part of our commitment to make Tasmania a better place to live, the Hodgman Liberal Government is delivering more than $179 million in new capital works projects for government schools around the State, including two brand new schools, four major school redevelopments and six new early learning hubs.

The Get Involved campaign will capture extensive community consultation to help inform planning for these important projects including the $20 million redevelopment of the Penguin District School, the $30 million new Brighton High School and the $4.3 million upgrade of the Jordan River Learning Federation School Farm.

These will be some of the most significant public works projects ever undertaken in these communities, and through listening to the community to inform their planning, we can support future generations of learners and their families.

Consultation will run for an initial six weeks and be followed by a second round of consultation in 2019.

Information on how to ‘get involved’ will be communicated widely via advertising, direct mail outs, social media and other channels.

In 2019, we will also hold further in depth community consultations for the $25.75 million redevelopment of Sorell School, the $20 million revitalisation of Cosgrove High School and the new $20 million primary school at Legana.

Providing the best possible education for Tasmanian students is a major priority for the Hodgman Liberal Government which is why we are investing a record $6.75 billion across the forward estimates and building the schools of the future.
