Gevorg Sargsyan Begins Mission as World Bank Country Manager in Kyiv

Gevorg Sargsyan has arrived in Kyiv as resident Country Manager in Ukraine. Since May 2022, Mr. Sargsyan has served as the Head of Operations for Eastern Europe, overseeing World Bank programs in Ukraine and Moldova.

"Amidst the disruption of the Russian invasion, the World Bank and its partners remain committed to helping the Government of Ukraine to meet the essential needs of its people, like keeping hospitals open, kids in school, and pensions arriving," said Gevorg Sargsyan, World Bank Country Manager in Ukraine. "The war has taken an immense toll on the country, but the Ukrainian people and government have shown incredible resilience. Through our projects and technical assistance, we will help Ukraine achieve a prosperous, peaceful, and stable future."

Mr. Sargsyan, an Armenian national, joined the World Bank in 2000. Over the last 23 years, he has worked across sectors and regions, including in fragile and conflict-affected countries. From 2017 to 2021, Mr. Sargsyan was the World Bank's Manger of Operations in South-East Asia based in Myanmar. He was the Global Lead for Clean Energy at the World Bank, responsible for renewable energy and energy efficiency business lines. He also led energy and infrastructure programs in India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Armenia, and Georgia, and worked in a number of other countries in Europe, Asia and Africa.

He is the author and co-author of several publications and papers on topics related to clean energy and infrastructure finance. Mr. Sargsyan has an M.S. in applied math and a Ph.D. (ABD) in economics.
