Girl dies after dog attack in Inverell

A 12-month-old girl has died after being attacked by a dog in the state’s west this afternoon, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to a home on Greaves Street, Inverell, about 2.20pm (Saturday 3 March 2018) following reports that child had been attacked by a dog.

On arrival officers found the child suffering critical injuries.

She was treated at the scene but sadly died on the way to hospital.

The family’s Rottweiler dog was found in the backyard of the home and was seized by Gwydir Shire Council rangers.

An investigation is now underway by police from New England Police District.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
