Girl Guides Hall Removal

Kempsey Shire Council

A piece of Kempsey's community history will soon be farewelled, with Council to remove the former Girl Guides Hall near Verge 1 sporting field.

The hall has stood vacant since the local Girl Guides branch disbanded.

Despite Council's efforts to lease the building, it has remained unused for several years. Unfortunately, the structure has suffered extensive vandalism, including fire damage, rendering it unsafe and beyond viable repair.

The decision to remove the building has not been made lightly, noting its prominence in the legacy of Girl Guides in the Macleay since the 1930s.

Council's decision to remove the building aligns with the Verge 1 Sporting Field Master Plan, adopted in November 2023. The plan recommends the hall's removal to enhance public safety, improve visibility across the reserve and support the development of the area as a high-quality sporting facility for use by our community for many years to come.

Works are scheduled to begin on 14 August with fencing to be installed followed by demolition on 18 August.
