Girls in Property Pilot launch

Jane Howlett,Minister for Women

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is reducing barriers to women's economic and workforce participation.

In order to achieve this, we are delivering a number of commitments to support women and girls to access the opportunities they need to succeed. This includes a $25,000 investment towards a partnership with the Property Council to deliver the Girls in Property Pilot Program, which we are launching today as part of our First 100 day plan.

This program will provide young girls an opportunity to meet female leaders right across the sector, and to increase awareness of the career opportunities within the property industry. The pilot program will bring together students from a number of schools and includes information sessions and other activities.

From project managers, to architects, to property developers, finance and real estate, there are so many fantastic career options in the property sector.

The Girls in Property Pilot has been successful in other Australian jurisdictions, and we are very pleased to bring it to Tasmania.

We are very proud to partner with the Property Council to help show Tasmanian girls who are making decisions about future careers, how many exciting and varied opportunities are in front of them.

This project will be delivering on key priorities within the Tasmanian Government's Leadership and Participation for Women Action Plan 2021-23 – supporting skills development and employment pathways.

The property industry is one of the largest employers in Australia. There are so many career options within this industry and it's important we have women taking up these opportunities.

By empowering more women to access opportunities we will continue to grow and strengthen our economy. This is more important than ever as we work to recover from the impacts of COVID-19.

I commend the Property Council of Australia for its commitments to addressing the under-representation of women in the industry and the action it is taking to encourage greater female participation.
