Now in its seventh year, the national initiative has reached more than 600 students across 25 schools in 2024 alone, providing real-world exposure to a sector that employs more than 1.4 million Australians and is shaping the future of our cities.
Women currently only make up around 25 per cent of Australia's property workforce. Property Council Victorian Executive Director Cath Evans said that there are diverse and exciting career paths ahead for young women in property.
"Whether their passion lies in creativity, problem-solving or leadership, there are fantastic opportunities that we want to bring to the attention of young women that they may not have been aware of until today," Ms Evans said.
"We're incredibly proud to bring these young women into the world of property through our program, which will no doubt open ideas and pathways that will encourage them into the sector.
"The property industry needs diverse perspectives. Having more women in the pipeline is essential for the future of our cities."
This full-day experience includes:
- A guided site tour of the Victoria Gardens precinct
- Keynote sessions from industry professionals
- Career roundtables with "Young Guns" from across the sector
- A collaborative group challenge led by property experts
The program is aligned with school curriculum goals in career exploration, STEM engagement, and workplace learning, giving teachers and students a unique and future-focused learning opportunity.
"Salta is proud to partner with the Property Council on the Girls in Property program, which this year is being hosted at the Victoria Gardens precinct, alongside Vicinity and Urbis," said Salta Properties COO Emma Woodhouse.
"Encouraging young women to explore careers in property is essential to building a more gender diverse and inclusive future. By engaging girls at secondary school age, the Girls in Property program inspires students to consider pathways into the property industry, providing a platform for the sector to come together and champion this ambition.
"Victoria Gardens provides the ideal backdrop for this year's program. As a precinct that integrates retail, commercial, residential, public spaces, and connectivity, it serves as a living example of how diverse expertise and roles come together to shape vibrant communities. It demonstrates the exciting opportunities ahead for the future professionals of our industry."
