North West Metro Regional Crime Squad detectives have charged a 30-year-old man with a range of firearms offences after seizing five firearms, including an AK47.
Detectives from Merri-Bek CIU and the North West Metro Regional Crime Squad executed two search warrants on Wednesday 4 March in Glenroy, following an alleged incident which took place at approximately 2.38am earlier that morning.
Police believe a number of offenders in the Rav4 damaged a vehicle parked on the street, leaving it with a smashed windscreen and damaged door.
As a result, shots were fired from a residence on the street impacting an unrelated premises on Lewis Street.
Five firearms, including an AK47 were seized as a result of the search warrants.
The 30-year-old Glenroy man has been charged with trafficking firearms, three counts of possess handgun, possess category E firearm, possess imitation firearm, prohibited person possess firearm, prohibited person possess firearm related item, possess ammunition, possess weapon and breaching parole conditions.
He is expected to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
