- Crisafulli Government is delivering for 2032 and beyond following 1200 days of Queensland Labor Games Chaos.
The Crisafulli Government has taken action to get the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games back on track, announcing the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) has appointed Unite32 as its Delivery Partner to supercharge the delivery of 17 new and upgraded Games venues statewide.
Unite32, a tier one design and construction management consortium, led by Laing O'Rourke and AECOM, beat leading national and international firms to secure the Delivery Partner role as part of a robust procurement process.
The consortium enhances GIICA's existing team with extensive international design and construction management experience from the London 2012, Rio 2016, Paris 2024 and the LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Unite32 are Queensland specialists, with Laing O'Rourke, AECOM and the supporting teams delivering some of the state's most significant construction projects over the past decade with offices in major regional centres across the State.
The integration of Unite32's statewide workforce and expertise with GIICA's highly experienced team will bolster program management, procurement, and risk mitigation to deliver the complex portfolio of Queensland's Games venues on time and within budget, with a focus on world-class outcomes and transformational legacy.
The engagement of a Delivery Partner, one of the key recommendations from the 100 Day Review, is a collaborative approach commonly used in large scale construction and public infrastructure projects to quickly leverage expertise and resources, while ensuring overarching client control and governance.
GIICA is delivering the 17 new and upgraded venues across the state in the $7.1 billion Games Venues Infrastructure Program jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said global experience joined with local expertise, knowledge and commitment would deliver Games venues to inspire Queenslanders well beyond 2032.
"After 1200 days of Queensland Labor's Games chaos, Queenslanders deserve certainty and confidence in the Games," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
"The Crisafulli Government has acted decisively to get the Games back on track and the Delivery Partner will ensure every venue is delivered on time, on budget, and with lasting benefits for our communities.
"This is about building a legacy of world-class infrastructure that serves Queenslanders well beyond 2032, restoring trust and delivering results for Queensland.
"While the Miles-Palaszczuk Labor Governments presided over Games chaos, crisis and uncertainty, we are getting on with the job of delivering the best Games ever, with generational infrastructure and long-term legacy for all of Queensland.
"These new and upgraded venues will make Queenslanders proud on the world stage, not just for four weeks in 2032, but for decades to come."
GIICA CEO Simon Crooks said the Delivery Partner would integrate seamlessly within GIICA's existing operations to build a cohesive team with enhanced experience, expertise and local knowledge, as well as a shared passion to deliver outstanding venues for Queenslanders.
"Since GIICA was established in November 2024, the Authority has pulled together a team of experienced, committed professionals to deliver the most ambitious sporting venues program in Queensland's history – 17 new and upgraded venues across the state ready for 2032," Mr Crooks said.
"Today, with the engagement of the Delivery Partner, we have the ability to scale the team at pace, complement our strengths and enhance our Games and mega event experience to ensure we leverage the learnings and successes of pervious Olympic and Paralympic infrastructure programs. I am looking forward to leading the best team in the country to build stadiums and sports centres for the Queenslanders of today and tomorrow."
Unite32 Program Director Paul Milne said it was a privilege to join GIICA to deliver the 2032 Games Venue Infrastructure Program to communities across the state.
"Our team has worked on Olympic and Paralympic Games including London 2012, Rio 2016, Paris 2024 and La 2028, but as importantly we have worked across the length and breadth of Queensland to deliver significant infrastructure projects in local communities," Mr Milne said.
"We know we have the right mix of Games experience, local knowledge, expertise and commitment to drive excellence in design and construction for all the venues. We are thrilled to be part of the team that will realise this unique Games infrastructure vision."
