Global Tourism Hub business register closes soon, says Healy

Businesses and indigenous parties keen to work on a potential Global Tourism Hub in Tropical North Queensland have only days left to register their interest with the government said Cairns MP Michael Healy.

"In October we called on Queensland businesses interested in having their details profiled to the would-be developers to get on board," Mr Healy said.

"There’s been a great response so far but we don’t want anyone to miss out. Today I want to remind all interested parties that the closing date is Thursday 6 December 2018.

"I urge businesses interested in having their details profiled to would-be developers to sign up this week.

"A Global Tourism Hub in the Tropical North could create thousands of jobs for Cairns.

"That’s what this is about – showcasing the talents of locals to potential developers to make sure the people of Tropical North Queensland make the most of this project."

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said a Global Tourism Hub was all about delivering new tourism infrastructure in Cairns to lure more visitors and create jobs.

"New world-class entertainment, new dining and retail experiences – this is what the next generation of tourists are after," she said.

The State is still assessing Expressions of Interest from shortlisted local, national and international proponents.

Ms Jones said the Local and Indigenous Business Register would be forwarded to the shortlisted proponents to give a broad picture of the local skills and expertise available in the Tropical North.

"Any Global Tourism Hub will need locals with a wide range of skills and expertise during construction and once its operational," she said.

"We want to make the most of the proposed Cairns Global Tourism Hub for taxpayers.

"That’s why it’s important for local businesses to register their expertise which will be presented to the project's shortlisted proponents."

Interested parties are asked to complete the online form. The deadline is Thursday 6 December 2018.
