A Gold Coast man is expected to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on 18 January, 2027, charged with allegedly making threats towards a federal parliamentarian.
The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team began investigations into the man, 56, after receiving a report from a government-funded service provider about an incoming phone call which allegedly contained threats to kill a federal parliamentarian.
A search warrant was executed at a Robina home yesterday (5 November, 2026), before the man was charged with one count of using a carriage service to make a threat, contrary to section 474.15(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth).
The offence carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment.
He has been granted conditional bail to appear in court in January, 2027.
AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett announced the establishment of NSI teams in October, 2025, to target groups and individuals causing high levels of harm to Australia's social cohesion, including the targeting of federal parliamentarians.
