Gold medal moves honed at Shed

City of Casey residents inspired by the recent success of the Australian Olympic skateboard and freestyle BMX teams can take advantage of their own world-class training venue right on their doorstep.

The Shed Skatepark, located in Cranbourne East, is the biggest indoor skate facility in the southern hemisphere and features a street course, ramps, bowl, air bag and a new indoor vert resi ramp, which is the only one of its kind in Australia.

Following an upgrade to the facility In 2019/20, funded by the City of Casey and Skate Australia, The Shed was used by a number of Olympic athletes training for the 2020 Tokyo Games, including Australian skateboarders Keegan Palmer and Kieran Woolley, Poppy Olsen and BMX freestyle rider, Logan Martin.

Keegan Palmer and Logan Martin both went on to win gold medals at the games.

Skate Australia High Performance Manager, James Karageorgiou said The Shed had been instrumental in the successful preparation of all our skaters, especially Keegan Palmer.

"The 2019 upgrade of the vert ramp by Casey Council to include a resi surface provided the perfect environment for Keegan to learn his biggest trick, the Kick Flip Body Varial 540. It was here at The Shed Skatepark that he was able to put it down for the very first time," said Mr Karageorgiou.

Peter Robbins, General Manager of The Shed Skatepark echoed those comments.

"We're really proud that our facility could help the Aussie guys and girls compete against the best in the world at Tokyo 2020 and bring home a couple of gold medals," he said.

"The Shed Skatepark is the biggest indoor skate facility in the southern hemisphere and the Casey community should be stoked that they have year-round access to this world class venue at their doorstep."
