The betrayal, sentencing and death of Jesus is a pivotal point in history and in Sydney’s Martin Place it will be re-enacted with a passion and a vitality that will echo in the heart of Sydney’s CBD on Good Friday.
Jesus, sentenced and beaten, carries his cross to the place of crucifixion. Witnessing this heart wrenching journey are hundreds of people who then follow him to his crucifixion.
The Good Friday Journey to the Cross Procession is an unforgettable experience, bringing the Easter story to life and attracting hundreds of onlookers. The procession travels from the amphitheatre across Pitt St to George St, and back around Martin Place to the amphitheatre where the crucifixion of Jesus begins.
"In a world beset by pain, suffering and self-interest the events of Good Friday ask deep and lasting questions of each of us," said Wesley Mission CEO the Rev Keith Garner. "It is not just the event that people engage with but the character of Jesus, and his love, grace and compassion.
"In the middle of the city the shops, businesses and banks may be closed but the hearts of people are open to the message of forgiveness and hope."
Media should assemble at Martin Place Amphitheatre at 1.15pm.
Wesley Mission will host a series of powerful Easter events, re-enactments and worship services and events during Holy Week 2018.
For more than 50 years Wesley Mission has taken the story of Easter into the public space giving people the opportunity to hear and share in the message of Easter.
