Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

A record percentage of female athletes will lead Australia's Olympic team at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

This team features 33 female athletes representing 62% of the team, marking the highest proportion of women for any Australian Winter or Summer Games team.

The record highlights the success of our female athletes and the continued growth of women's sport in Australia.

Australia is represented by its second largest Winter Olympic team ever, with 53 athletes, including 27 making their Winter Olympics debut.

Together, these athletes showcase the strength, talent and competitiveness of Australian winter sport.

Record investments are supporting our athletes, coaches and staff to perform at their best at Milano Cortina 2026.

Following the 2022 Beijing Winter Games, the Australian Government invested $37.5 million into high performance funding for Winter Olympic and Paralympic National Sporting Organisations.

To directly support athletes, we distributed more than $3.3 million to eligible Olympic and Paralympic Winter competitors through the dAIS program - providing direct funding to athletes to assist with living and training costs.

The Opening Ceremony for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games is on 7 February (AEDT), while the Winter Paralympic Games runs from March 6 to 15.
