Good time to get a job

In further good news on the jobs front in South Australia the number of job vacancies hit an all-time high in the May quarter with 21,300 positions currently available according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The 21,300 vacancies represent a 10 per cent increase from the previous quarter and a massive 213 per cent increase in job vacancies since the same quarter last year.

ABS figures also show that in the last two months South Australia has created 22,400 jobs and now has a record 871,000 people in work.

"The fact there are record numbers of South Australians in work and record numbers of job vacancies highlights the strength of South Australia's economic rebound from the impact of COVID-19," said Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni.

"From accountants to zoologists and most occupations in between there's never been a better time to get a job in South Australia.

"The State and Federal Governments are investing heavily in providing training opportunities for people looking for work or wanting to upskill in the job they have.

"The combined Marshall and Morrison Government wage subsidies are delivering up to $32,000 of support for new apprentices and trainees.

"South Australia had the highest percentage increase in the country for apprentice and trainee commencements in the year to 31 December 2020, up 21.5 per cent compared to 2019.

"South Australia also led the nation for the largest percentage increase, 22.5 per cent, in the number of apprentices and trainees in-training as at 31 December 2020 compared to the same time last year.

"The Marshall Government's record $17.9 billion investment in infrastructure is driving a wave of job creation that is being felt right across metropolitan and regional South Australia.

"The private sector is also investing heavily with the volume of private new capital expenditure in SA in the March quarter 2021 coming in 21.0% higher than a year earlier - the strongest in the nation by far with the figure for Australia increasing by just 0.8%.

"The number of dwelling approvals in South Australia in April 2021 was 41.8% higher than a year earlier and retail turnover in South Australia in April was 16.6% higher.

"South Australia's strong growth in employment opportunities vindicates the Marshall Government's economic policies in the wake of the pandemic."
