At an Extra Ordinary Meeting held on 26 May 2025, Council gave conditional approval for a new 370m grass Greyhound Racing Straight Track, to be built at the Goulburn Recreation Area.

The project cannot start just yet — it first needs final approval from Water NSW. Also, the overall Management Plan for the Recreation Area must be updated to include the outcomes of the current master planning process, which is expected to be completed in the coming months.

Council is also ensuring that all existing users of the recreation area can continue to enjoy their spaces while the track is being built and once it's operating.

Several important conditions have been set to make sure the track fits in with the wider community's use of the area:

  • The track can be used any day of the week but not after 10:30 pm, with only one day of racing.
  • No use will be permitted on Christmas Day.
  • All use must be coordinated with Council's Recreation Facility Manager and booked through Council's usual event process.

Included in the Development Application is a removable fence along the track, so that other recreation users are not blocked or disadvantaged and so that vehicles can access and cross the track.

Council is committed to balancing new developments with the needs of all users of the Goulburn Recreation Area.
