The Palaszczuk Government will reconvene it's Governing from the Sunshine Coast program next month after it was postponed due to the flooding disaster in North Queensland.
The Premier told Parliament today her cabinet would meet on the coast on Monday 11 March kicking off other activities her Ministers would be involved in during the week.
"Unfortunately, the flooding disaster in North and North West Queensland meant we had to postpone the program last week. I needed my cabinet focussed on assisting those affected communities," the Premier said.
"Queenslanders have always been great at coming together in these times of need and while our focus was and is still on the north and north-west of the state, I want to thank the Sunshine Coast community for their understanding."
The Premier also announced the next Women on Boards event would be held on the Sunshine Coast during that week.
"We want to encourage as many women as possible to step into the boardroom at all levels of public, private and not-for-profit sectors, so I want to see the women invited from around the Sunshine Coast supporting this latest Women on Boards event," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"My government is leading by example, there are 50 per cent of women in my cabinet but as a community there is more work to do – and that's what these Women on Boards events are all about."
The previous Women on Boards events in Brisbane and Toowoomba were attended by more than 800 participants, who were urged to step up into key roles with Government bodies, in particular.
"We've seen some great outcomes on the Sunshine Coast with women representing four out of six Queensland Government appointees to the Council of the University of the Sunshine Coast, and seven out of 10 appointees to the North Coast Regional Disability Advisory Council," the Premier said.
"I want to see this continue so I'm calling on the board-ready women of the Sunshine Coast to seize this opportunity to help shape our great State because your time is here and now."
