Government confusion on TFS and SES amalgamation continues

Tasmanian Labor
  • Mark Shelton fails to convincingly rule out amalgamation
  • Minster's incompetence on display yet again
  • Government must provide certainty
  • In yet another disgraceful display of incompetence in parliament, Mark Shelton today failed to convincingly rule out the amalgamation of the TFS and the SES.

Shadow Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management , Jen Butler, said Mark Shelton's performance in parliament should concern all Tasmanians.

"We know the Minister has had discussions about amalgamating the SES and the TFS," Ms Butler said.

"Mark Shelton's awkward attempts to gloss over explicit questions about amalgamations are not fooling anyone.

"It is vital Mr Shelton comes clean and stops misleading Tasmanians.

"Our State Emergency Service volunteers and our volunteer firefighters are the core of our response to emergency situations like bushfires and natural disasters.

"These people hold the trust of communities across the state and we depend on them at times of greatest community distress.

"Will it be left to the Premier to yet again mop up the mess of his hapless Minister?"

    Jen Butler MP

Shadow Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management
