Government continues to fail hardworking Tasmanians

  • ACTU report exposes Tasmania's unsafe workplace practices
  • Will Hodgman and Elise Archer fail to act to keep Tasmanians safe in the workplace
  • The Hodgman Minority Government is risking the lives of hardworking Tasmanians by failing to act on workplace safety reforms.

An Australian Council of Trade Unions report titled Work Shouldn't Hurt exposes just how unsafe Tasmanian workplaces are - with over 7,000 Tasmanian workers making claims for workers compensation in the last year.

Shadow Minister for Workplace Relations, Michelle O'Byrne, said Labor had long called for the Government to implement industrial manslaughter laws, specialist worksite inspections and to better resource WorkCover.

"The Government must get serious about the health of Tasmanians in the workplace," Ms O'Byrne said.

"Will Hodgman and Elise Archer are putting the lives of hardworking Tasmanians at risk by failing to take the issue seriously.

"More needs to be done to prevent the physical and psychological injuries in Tasmanian workplaces.

"The Government must to act urgently to address these damning findings. Hardworking Tasmanians deserve better."
