Government has no answers on COVID support for workers or businesses

Tasmanian Labor

Shadow Minister for Small Business Janie Finlay said it was unacceptable that Minister Roger Jaensch was unable to provide adequate answers on support for businesses and workers when quizzed on radio this morning.

"Minister Jaensch's performance on radio this morning was atrocious," Ms Finlay said.

"With school returning shortly, businesses need to hear that the government has got their back and that they are prepared to support industry if a second wave of COVID hits.

"Parents will take time off work and this means business operators and workers may be impacted again. Businesses want confidence and clear communication coming from their government.

"The fact Minister Jaensch was unable to answer questions at a time where many businesses need support shows a complete lack of empathy and understanding.

"How can Tasmanians have confidence in a government if they can't answer simple questions?

"Businesses have already taken a financial hit from the borders reopening and it is likely they won't be able to carry another hit like this if they are impacted when school goes back.

"It is time for the government to stop and listen instead of reacting.

"The summer period should have been a time for Tasmanian businesses to thrive. Instead, the government announced a support package of up to $5,000 that provides little to no support.

"Clearly, Peter Gutwein has lost touch with the Tasmanian business community."
