Government Internal Audit Agency Appoints New CEO

Harriet Aldridge has today joined the Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) as its new chief executive.

Harriet takes up this role following a career at PwC where she has been undertaking internal and external audits and leading high-profile investigations.

Her appointment follows the announcement that the GIAA's current chief executive, Elizabeth Honer, will be retiring from the civil service at the end of the year. Elizabeth has held the post since 2018.

Cat Little, Second Permanent Secretary and Head of the Government Finance Function, said:

"I am delighted to welcome Harriet Aldridge as the new GIAA chief executive. Harriet joins a strong and stable organisation that, under the tenure of Elizabeth Honer, has continued to grow, welcoming new customers and increasing levels of insight across government, providing assurance that public funds are used wisely, efficiently and effectively."

Harriet Aldridge, the new chief executive said:

"I am immensely proud to be taking up this role with GIAA. I have spent my career to date in the private sector, leading the provision of assurance services, counter fraud advice and investigations for clients across government and the public sector. I am delighted to now join the civil service and build on the successes of GIAA and to continue to deliver on such an important agenda."

About the GIAA

The GIAA is a government executive agency sponsored by HM Treasury. Established in 2015, the GIAA works across the UK government providing internal audit and counter fraud services for 15 central government departments and over 130 arm's length bodies. The GIAA is the government's primary provider of internal audit service, and the agency leads both the government internal audit profession and internal audit function.
