The Liberal Government cannot forget the housing crisis that continues to grip Tasmania.
Shadow Minister for Housing Anita Dow said the government had failed to update Tasmanians on the housing initiatives outlined in their 100-day plan.
"Tasmania is in the middle of another freezing winter and the Liberal Government continue to watch on as 4,006 Tasmanians sit on the public housing waitlist," Ms Dow said.
"This number includes 1,947 families with children, families that will be forced to wait 55 weeks to get a home, families that will be forced to rely on the good will of friends and relatives to stay warm this winter and avoid homelessness.
"We are now over halfway through the Liberals' 100-day plan and Tasmanian's have every right to ask what post-election action the government has taken to fix the housing crisis.
"Why has the new Minister Michael Ferguson been so silent? Does he have an update on the development at the Hobart Showgrounds? Or the consultation with key stakeholders for the Tasmanian Housing Strategy?"
Ms Dow said it was time for Mr Ferguson to act.
"Tasmanians are feeling the full brunt of the housing crisis right across the state. They want a Government who will make fixing this crisis a key priority.
"We saw the heartbreaking story of a young family in the Mercury on Wednesday and the government's disgraceful response to their plea for a home.
"It is unacceptable that the Housing Minister is missing in action on this important issue and I call on Minister Ferguson to update Tasmanian's on what action the government is taking right now to address the housing crisis.
"The housing crisis needs immediate action and the government needs to start taking it to ensure all Tasmanians have access to the basic human right of housing."
