Governor General sends message of support to Casey

The Governor-General, His Excellency, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley recently held an online meeting with Casey's Chair of Administrators, Noelene Duff PSM and Chief Executive Officer, Glenn Patterson to convey their support for the Casey community and Council staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting was held at the request of the Governor General who has been speaking with Mayors and community leaders from municipalities across Victoria over the past few weeks, to hear about those in the community that are struggling for a range of reasons during the pandemic but also about the many acts of kindness and compassion that have come to light.

"His Excellency wanted to convey both his and Mrs Hurley's strong sentiment of support and best wishes to the staff and residents of Casey during this period whilst COVID-19 is having such an enormous impact on communities throughout Melbourne," Ms Duff said.

"His Excellency was very interested in hearing about the City of Casey, including the challenges of a growing metropolitan area and our role in south eastern Melbourne."

Mr Patterson agreed that it was a welcome and positive meeting.

"We welcomed the opportunity to speak to Their Excellencies about the outstanding work being done by Casey staff and especially our front-line, essential service workers, the adaptability and compassion they have shown to those most in need, as well as the community relief and support measures Council has put in place," Mr Patterson said.
