Govt Fails Avebury Once More, Tasmanian Labor Claims

Tas Labor

Premier Jeremy Rockliff has failed to protect the 200 jobs at Avebury Nickle Mine.

During Question Time today, the Premier said that no public funds had been given to Avebury, despite promising $800,000 payroll tax reimbursement only a fortnight ago and tabling a request for additional funds last week.

The Premier says he is pro resource sector, so why isn't he helping?

Without support, the closure of the mine will devastate the local community, destroy regional jobs and the West Coast economy.

In 2018, the Liberals promised Avebury Nickle Mine $3.5 million in payroll tax relief - a commitment they also failed to deliver on.

After 10 years of this Liberal Government, it is clear they have no intention of supporting this important sector.

Tasmanian Labor wants to see a long and successful future of the Avebury Nickle Mine and its workforce.

The minority Liberal Government must step up and deliver what it promised.
